How to Add Text to a PDF File
Text may be added to PDF files online without the need to install any software. Image courtesy of Top Photo Group/Getty Images and Top Photo Group/Getty Images While altering PDF files might be difficult, adding text to a PDF file is simple and can be accomplished utilizing a variety of free techniques. It is possible to use an online or desktop editor to make minor changes to the document’s margins or blank spaces without affecting the overall layout of the page. In the event that you need to insert text in between paragraphs of the document body, be careful not to cause the document to get out of alignment.
Visit a website such as PDFEscape, PDF Buddy, or PDFZen to learn more about PDFs (links in Resources). These websites provide free services that are adequate for simple PDF alterations; however, for more in-depth adjustments, a desktop-based editor is recommended. To upload a PDF file to the editor, go to the main page of the site and click the upload button.
Make use of the “Text” tool, point to an area of the PDF where you wish to insert text, and then input some text into the document to complete the process. These free online PDF editors are all quite similar in their functionality. They can be used to erase text, make notes, and construct forms, but they cannot be used to modify the layout of a page.
To save the annotated PDF file to your computer, click on the “Download” button. Each of these websites provides its services for free and does not require you to form an account, so you will not be required to sign in before you can download your PDF.
Download a free PDF editor, such as PDF24 Creator, PDFEdit, or Free PDF Editor, to work with your PDF documents (links in Resources). Generally speaking, these tools provide the same functionality as the online PDF editors, with the exception of PDF24 Creator, which offers a few additional functions such as the ability to split and combine files. This feature allows you to insert text into the midst of a document without deleting any of the current content in the document.
To open a PDF file, launch your PDF editor and select “Open” from the File menu. Each software’s interface has a toolbar that contains a menu of buttons that is similar to the toolbar menu seen in a word processing program. The Open button in each program has the appearance of a folder icon on the toolbar.
The “Text” tool should be selected, and then you should click on a blank section of the page and input the text you wish to include. Editing PDF files with the graphical editing tools is similar to editing a text document in a word processor, with the exception that PDF files do not have line numbers, so clicking the document body moves the cursor in accordance with the document’s relative dimensions when the document is zoomed in.
If you’re using PDF24 Creator, you may start by clicking “New” to create a new document. Left-clicking a page in your PDF document, dragging it to the new document, then releasing the mouse button will split the document.
It is possible to insert text in the midst of a document without affecting its formatting by using this approach. Drag pages from one document to the blank space at the end of the other document to combine the two papers.
In contrast to a Web-based editor, which only offers a small selection of your browser’s default fonts, a desktop PDF editor allows you to use any font on your computer’s hard drive. If your PDF document does not contain the Arial or Times New Roman fonts, you will need to use a desktop editor to make it look like the original.
