How to Curve Text in Cricut Design Space on PC and iPad!
Learn how to curve text in Cricut Design Space 2020 using two simple approaches that are both quick and straightforward. Curving text is a simple process, regardless of whether you are using a PC or an iPad. In response to the numerous inquiries I receive on how to curve text in the Cricut, I decided to demonstrate two methods I have discovered for doing so. Curving text in the Cricut program helps you to create even more creative phrases than you could otherwise. During this lesson, I’ll go over the old method of curved text, as well as the new curve tool in Cricut Design Space.
I know, it’s a bummer!
So please take a look at the YouTube video instruction I’ve created for these steps, which can be seen below.
How to Use the Curve Tool in Cricut
When it comes to using the curve feature in Cricut software, it is rather straightforward. A box will appear when you click on Text on the left-hand side of the screen. Fill in the blanks with the wording you like. In order to curve text, it must first be ungrouped, connected, or welded together before it can be manipulated. It must be an unedited version of the text. Afterwards, while your text is still chosen, click on the Curve icon in the top tool bar. A box with a slider will appear on the screen.
See what happens if you move the circle on the bar to the right a little bit.
Slide to the left and the letters on the outside of the page will curl upward.
By clicking on the arrows in Letter Space, you may move the letters closer or further apart from one another.
Just be sure to choose all of the letters and then attach them after you are finished so that they cut out in the same manner as before.
Curving Text in a Circle
I used to curve text using a circle as a template before I discovered the curve tool. This method is still quite simple to use, and it is effective when using a different sort of curvature than what the curve tool provides. Insert a circle and the Size will be unlocked. Then, using the four-arrow circle, pull the oval to flatten it and shape it into the desired curvature. Fill in the blanks with the word you choose and place it on the circle (or bottom if you want it curved the other way). I prefer to pick both the word and the oval, as well as the center of the oval.
- Then Remove the text from its grouping.
- I rotate the letters until the bottom of the letter aligns with the bottom of the oval on the page.
- Each letter should be moved until it is aligned.
- If you want to make the words more curved, follow the same procedure.
- So, there are several distinctions between utilizing the Curve tool and using an oval template in this situation.
How to Curve Cursive Text in Design Space
Curving cursive text in design space is identical to the previous step. However, you will not be able to weld or connect the text until after you have used the curve tool. Choose the cursive text you wish to use from the drop-down menu. You now have a choice between two alternatives. I’d recommend giving each a shot and evaluating which one you like. Everything is covered in the video, so be sure to watch it from the beginning to the end with the sound turned on! You may start with the curve tool and curve it to roughly where you want it, and then reduce the letter spacing to get the letters as near as possible so that the majority of them link with each other.
Once you’ve selected the text, clickweld (I always weld for cursive so that you don’t clip small stories off the letters).
Once again, make certain that everything is properly welded.
How to Curve Words on Cricut Design Space Video
As previously stated, the curve tool is not now available in the Cricut app. On an iPad or phone, though, you may still curve text by utilizing the circle approach I described above in this post. Because the function buttons are in a different location on my phone, I took screenshots of it. Because I have big fingers, turning the individual letters on a little phone was more difficult than it would have been with a mouse! To curve a word, choose Text and enter in the word you like to curve. Then, at the bottom of the page, select Shapes and then Circle.
- Select both the word and the circle and then click on Edit, then Align, and then Center Horizontally to complete the transformation.
- Click on Edit, then on the H Position and V Position, and enter in a degree till it is aligned with the top of the circle, then click on Save.
- That’s all there is to it!
- When curved lettering is placed around a print and cut image, it appears to be rather amusing.

Curving Text in Cricut DS using iPhone, iPad & Android
With the use of your iPhone, iPad, or Android smartphone, I’ll teach you how to quickly and effortlessly curve text in Cricut Design Space. When I’m not utilizing my desktop computer with Cricut Design Space, this is the way I prefer to use instead. When working with the desktop edition of Cricut Design Space, I really like how simple it is to curve text. However, there may be a variety of reasons why you will not be able to use the desktop version of Cricut Design Space at some point in the future.
- By the way, this was a special request from a viewer.
- In case you missed it, here’s a link to my tutorial on How to Curve Text Using Fonts Symbols.
- It is accessible on both theApple App Store and theGoogle Play Store, and it is free to download.
- Have you ever been curious about how someone can quickly and simply add text to a photograph?
- On this particular day, though, I’ll simply be showing you how to curve text using the Phonto app.
You should keep in mind that you have the option of adding a Stroke/Outline to your text, which may be really useful!. The article “How to Offset Text Using iPhone, iPad, and Android Using Phonto App” has been updated with an additional post and video.
How to Curve Text using Phonto App
To begin, download the app in the appropriate version for your device. Today’s video will be based on my Apple iPad, but the instructions will be the same for iPhone and Android devices.
Video: How to Curve Text using iPhone, iPad, and Android
Instead of reading, you may choose to watch a video instead! Once you have downloaded the app, you may access it by tapping or clicking on it. It will display an advertisement at the top of the app. This is something you can just disregard because it will not get in the way of your design work. After that, select “Plain Images” from the camera icon on the toolbar. This gives up a list of your available canvas options. The basic white one, which is to the right of the plain black one, is one of my favorites.
- Afterwards, select “use” from the drop-down menu by clicking on the rectangle with the arrow icon.
- When you tap anywhere on the blank white canvas, the “Add Text” option will be shown.
- After that, write your sentiment.
- Today, I’m going to use the typeface “Baskerville SemiBold,” and then I’ll hit the “done” button.
- Feelings should be typed
- To switch from Align Left to Align Center, tap Align Left again. Select a typeface by tapping it and dragging it around
- To finish, press the done button.
Following that, you’ll want to adjust the color of the text so that it’s easier to read. Today, I picked black by selecting “Style” from the drop-down menu and then touching the black square. Then press the “Done” button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. You may now make advantage of Place your finger or apple pencil on the text itself and drag the text to the center of your painting to complete the transformation. If your text options disappear, don’t be concerned; simply tap on your text selection again.
- There are further choices available, such as adjusting the color of the stroke or adding a backdrop color.
- Today, I’d want to concentrate on the curve text feature once again.
- You will be presented with the same options as previously.
- Now it’s time to start bending!
- Then, using your finger or a pen, move the black choices box to the left until it stops.
- The curve will appear if you just move the slider to the right or left, as seen below.
- As soon as I’m satisfied with my curve, I can press on the next line of text and curve it as well.
- Isn’t it simple to do?
- Select “Save image as PNG” from the drop-down menu that appears when you tap on the rectangular box with the small arrow in it.
After that, you will receive a notice stating that it was successfully saved. It will then begin playing a ridiculous advertisement video, after which you will notice a small X in the top right corner of the app, allowing you to exit the advertisement.
How to Upload your PNG file into Design Space
- Open the Cricut Design Space application
- Select “New Project”
- Select “Upload”
- And save your work.
4.Click on “Select from Photo Library” to bring up the photo library. 5.Find and tap on the photo that you want to use. Once that is complete, it is time to “Clean Up” the image and ready it for use in Cricut Design Space. To begin, we must first remove the background and make the image transparent. This is accomplished by clicking on the wand in the lower left hand corner. To use the wand, first tap on it, and then tap in the centre of the curved text message. Notice how the black square in the right corner has been turned white, and the square where the text is located has been transformed into a backdrop with many squares (which indicates that it is now transparent).
This is due to the fact that we still need to tap in the center of each of those letters in order to make them transparent as well.
If you’ve never done this procedure before, it’s probably best to “see” me do it in the video rather than trying to figure it out yourself.
As an added bonus, if you position your finger or your Apple pencil exactly in the centre of a letter, an enlarged image will appear, indicating whether your finger is in the middle or if your finger is on the line of the letter, allowing you to change your finger placement as seen below: Repeat this procedure for each of the letters to ensure that the text in the little square to the right is perfectly aligned.
- Tap on “Next” in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
- The name of your project is now available to you to type.
- This will place your design in its entirety on your Design Space canvas.
- This design was simple to create since I used a pumpkin from Design Space Images, which I put in the midst of my curving text.
- It’s really simple.

Text that is curved may be created using either Cricut or System Fonts. Unless it is welded or flattened, curved text retains its entire editability. If you curve the text line, you may still alter the letter spacing, rotate it, edit the text, change the font type and style
- But, the text will be distorted. Projects with curved text will not launch on the mobile apps because they feature curved text. Due to the fact that it is now an image rather than a text box text, curve text that has been edited by welding or flattened for Print Then Cut will be able to be opened on mobile applications.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE Everything I say about items is my own personal opinion.
How to Curve Text in Cricut Design Space:
You will open a text box on your canvas screen to type in your message. This may be accomplished by selecting the text tool from the left-hand toolbar. You will be presented with a text box into which you can insert your text. The Text Edit toolbar allows you to change the font, spacing, and size, among other things. (See below for more pointers on how to do this.) You will then choose your text and then select the Curve Text Tool from the drop-down menu. A new window will appear, which contains a slider and a numerical input box.
In order to create a curve in the opposite direction, simply move the slider to the left or enter a negative value in the type box.
Tips for using the Curve Text Tool for Cricut
- For the time being, this utility is only available on the desktop. It is not accessible through mobile or tablet devices. Aside from that, curved text will not display on a mobile or tablet device unless the text has been welded or flattened, resulting in the text appearing as an image rather than a text box. Text that has been curved is totally modifiable (unless welded, flattened, or ungrouped and regrouped). It is advised that you curve your text first, and then alter letter spacing, rotate, edit, and change font type, among other things, before continuing. This tool will only function on single lines of text, and it will not work on paragraphs. In order to curve many lines at the same time, you will need to input them one at a time or use the Ungroup to Lines tool to divide the lines into their own text boxes.

Where is the curve tool in Design Space?
The Curve tool icon will only display if you have a Text layer selected, otherwise it will not appear. To begin working with the curve tool in Design Space, first generate your text with the Text tool and then select it by clicking on the layer in the Layers palette. If the text has been picked, you will be able to tell because it will have a border around it. As soon as text has been selected, the curve tool will appear at the top of the screen near the text. It’s located in the menu list, between the “Alignment” and “Advanced” buttons, on the left side.
How to use the Cricut Design Space curve tool
When you click on the curve tool, a slider bar will appear. Slide the black circle to the right with your mouse to bend the text upwards into a semi-circle with an upwards curve. By dragging the black circle to the left, you may curve the text into a downward semi-circle on the page.
The curve becomes more dramatic the more you drag the bar. To lessen the angle of the curve if you move the bar too far in one way and your text becomes more curved than you intended, simply slide it in the other direction.
How do you curve text in Cricut Design space on iPhone or iPad?
Due to technical limitations, the Design Space iOS and Android applications will not support the ‘curve text’ function as of May 2020. Curving text will require the use of a computer and the desktop edition of Design Space if you want to get the desired result. If this function is not available on mobile devices, Cricut should consider adding it. How to Curve Text in Cricut Design Space
Learn how to curve text in the Cricut Design Space software program. You have a fantastic design concept, but where is the damned button that allows you to bend the text? UPDATE: A button has been added! You just type your text into a text box that has been opened. Once you have entered what you want to curve, you will move up to the toolbar and click on the arrow. The word “curve” is written in the bottom row on the right-hand side. When you click on it, a drop-down menu appears with a dot on a slider bar at the bottom.
- Going to the left will cause the ends of your text to be curved upward.
- There is also the option of just entering a number.
- This is useful if you want to create a group of words that all have the same amount of curve in their spelling.
- There isn’t any such thing.
- In Design Space, the only method to accomplish this is by hand.
- It is not difficult.
- It might be a single word or a group of words.
It has to be as large as you want your curve to be in order to be effective.
Following that, you will move each letter one at a time, following the circle as a guide.
You may create a curved text by shifting and tilting the letters in your sentence.
Remove the circle and recombine all of the letters into a single word once you’re pleased with the result.

How to Curve Text in Cricut Design Space
Add text to the curve by clicking on the “add text” button and typing the words you wish to curve. For the sake of this example, I’ve written in “Happy Birthday!”
Select Font and Size
Once you’ve entered your text, you may make changes to it by altering the font and size. You may also make changes to the font or size of the text after it has been curved. There are certain fonts that appear far better curved than others, so you’ll just have to experiment to find out the one you like. I updated the typeface to DonJuan, which is one of my personal favorites.
Curve that text!
You will see something similar to the image below when you have the text selected in your text editing toolbar. When you click on the “curve” symbol, a slider will appear on the screen. In order to bend text in a downwardarch, move the slider to the right. To curve text in an upwardarch, move the slider to the left until the curve is achieved. In order to make your text a complete circle, you will need to drag the slider all the way to the right or left on the screen. I want mine to be positioned completely to the right, so that the words are curled downward rather than upward.
Adjust the letters
Once you’ve got the words bent in the direction you want them, you may want to tweak them a little further. To return to the text editor, click on the text box once more. Perhaps you’d want to modify the letter spacing or experiment more with the font style and font size this time around? You may also modify the font style for each typeface. Some fonts include a variety of styles to choose from, such as writing, bold, and others.
A tip Before you ungroup
The fact that all of these changes may be made while the text is still chosen should not be overlooked. If you wish to move each letter individually, you’ll need to ungroup the letters first. When you ungroup your letters, Design Space treats each letter as an own picture. After you ungroup, you will no longer be able to adjust the font or the curve. You will be able to alter each individual letter, though, in order to get the desired result. If you are unclear whether or not you should ungroup, my best recommendation is to just make a duplicate of the text you are now working with.
As soon as you’ve done that, you may ungroup one of them and rearrange the contents.
Another alternative is to press the undo button until the text version is restored, however this will only work if you haven’t already saved it.
For me, it’s best to create a duplicate and then just put it somewhere out of the way until I am certain I will not need it again.
If so, what did you think?
I’d be interested in seeing your efforts or designs. I know that many individuals are looking forward to using this functionality into their monograms and sports projects. Please send me an email at [email protected] to let me know how you are use it. Thank you.
